By September of 1988, club meetings began at the Delaware Technical College Library in Georgetown, Delaware with eight(8) members. Today the club has approximately seventy five(75) members.
To our credit the club has been hosting the Harrington Heritage Day Show_N-Shine since 1991. This show has grown from thirty(30) car event, to over one hundred and ten (110) on the show grounds. The club has had put on shows and Mustang displays at many Ford dealerships and several auto parts stores, sometimes booking shows a year in advance.
From 1992 through 1996 the club hosted a "cruise-in" at the Seaford Village Shopping Center in Seaford, Delaware on the second Saturday of every month from May thru October. The cruise-in has a DJ that plays music of the 50's, 60's and 70's. During the first years, we sold sodas and hot dogs for a dollar to help pay bills. Since then, with the success of the event, the merchants of the shopping center has come aboard to carry the financial load. In 1997 the cruise was moved to the Wal-Mart Super Store in Seaford, Delaware. Every year the event gets bigger and bigger.
Other club activities include: volunteer beach grass planting for the state, summer picnics, Christmas party and attending other events as a club in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. We have gone as far as North Carolina for the 35th anniversary Mustang show at Lowes Motor Speedway in April of 1999.
The Lower Delaware Mustang Club has become a known entity in the car club circuit. The club has achieved a reputation for hosting events in which all who attend have an enjoyable experience.
On October 10, 1995 the Lower Delaware Mustang Club was granted a regional charter by the Mustang Club of America. Becoming a Chartered Regional Group of the Mustang Club of America has given club members greater excess to technical and material resources. The club not only helps its members but also, makes several donations to local charities in Kent and Sussex counties, in Delaware with the money the club raises at its events.
This club was founded on a common interest of the Mustang and a willingness
to help our fellow man. 2007 was the 20th anniversary of the LDMC. Where
will the Lower Delaware Mustang Club be in 2017?
